Details:Color lithograph for "Descente aux enfers" (Descent into hell) As the opening motif for Marcel Jouhandeau’s "Descent to Hell", Georges Braque created a very light work consisting of three different shades of grey. A flying bird couple that seems to emerge from far-off mists … Happy to be seeing what is beneath them again. The work seems tender and delicate, and its "colourlessness" makes it seem even more expressive. This is the first of four original colour lithographs that Braque used to illustrate one of his last artists’ books (see title above). All four show flying birds - a subject that became so important to him towards the end of his life that he reinvented it in countless variations.
