Details:"The Blue Cow" (La vache bleue) Marc Chagall created this bright and colourful lithograph in the same year in which his famous "Le Cirque" portfolio was published. In the catalogue raisonné for works of printmaking, this single sheet is listed immediately before the Cirque pictures. So we can assume that the artist already had the circus topic in mind when he was drawing the lithograph. The figure embracing the blue cow, wearing colourful trousers, seems to be one of Chagall’s circus clowns. Who knows where those two are heading... Together with a great bird and a beautiful young woman in the background, they seem to be floating in the air above Paris, as the Eiffel Tower suggests.
