Antoni Tápies‘ graphical work "Vague 1, 2" treats materiality like an artwork. He liked to work against traditional processes and often used direct and fast colour application for his individual picture language. This demeanour and his enthusiasm for rough surfaces, where the material became a means of expression, are, to this day, unique. Like almost no other artist, Tàpies succeeds in translating the power and substance of his painting into printmaking.
His lithographs feature a high optical plasticity that by far exceeds what one is accustomed to in printmaking. "Vague 1, 2" is one of these works. Spontaneity and movement play an important role in the formal language of this print. The peculiarities of this original lithograph are its size and the graceful dynamics and materiality, despite the simplicity and calmness of the colouring and formal language. Tàpies here continues his aesthetics of materiality and manages to sensitize our eyes for form and movement.

| | Remarks: | Beside the unsigned edition on Velin paper for Derriere le miroir, 150 impressions were printed on Arches paper with wide margins and signed by Tapies. Here is an unsigned impression with margins slightly cut (please see photo). Rare!
