Details:"L'été" (Summer) - 1938 In the pictures Miró produced during the Spanish Civil War, pain and aggression is written in the faces of the depicted characters. This original graphic called "L’été" which is dated March 1938 does definitely not display an idyllic sommer scene. Apart from the cheerful colours typically used by Miró, fear, despair and anger coin this "wild” picture – "wild oeuvre" is how Miró himself called the works he created during this time. It wasn’t only him who cursed this war in his pictures, it was at the same time that fellow artist Picasso painted his despair off his chest with his famous painting "Guernica". However difficult anti-war art might be to digest for the viewer, it must at all costs be supported! This is why we recently donated to the UN refugee relief in Syria - we believe in the interests of Joan Miró and of you.
